The Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is so gorgeous and was definitely on our list of places to visit again. Six years ago there was a lot of construction work going on and scaffolding on the outside so it was really exciting to be able to see so much of the entrance uncovered this time around.

We rented bikes to get from the main palace to the Grand Trianon and walked over to Marie Antoinette's hameau. Somehow we were the only people visiting that didn't grab a map but luckily I remembered how to get there from last time. (I love that my brain remembers something like that from six years ago but not where I put my keys.)

We returned our bikes just in time for the park to close and we took the train back to Le Marais. Our feet were covered in dust from all of the pathways so we freshened up and went to the Champs Elysee to eat and watch the big World Cup game - France versus Switzerland!

It's really fun to watch a big soccer game especially when you're in the county that's currently playing. Of course Chris and I were hoping that Switzerland would win but it became pretty obvious pretty quickly that it wasn't going to happen. We left to walk around while the game was still going on and once the final whistle blew, the city went nuts! There were cars honking and people hanging out of the windows waving flags and yelling. It was pretty crazy and but it was really fun to watch! There were actually a ton of riot police patrolling the Champs Elysee to make sure people didn't get out of control.
