He was one of the last truly great fashion legends to have studied under the amazing European couturiers of the Golden Age of fashion. Mr. de la Renta always said that he considered Cristobal Balenciaga as his mentor.
His designs were impeccable and absolute perfection. He was a visionary and a taste maker and the world was lucky to have him. He was bold in life and in fashion, always willing to bet on himself. His body of work is huge and will influence generations of designers and women forever. His legacy is so much more than fabric, sketches, and beautiful gowns. Oscar de la Renta made women feel confident and allowed them to express who they were in how they dressed. It's an incredible gift to be able to make a person feel like their best self.
